The Hospitality and Tourism industry is a vital part of the Virginia Peninsula economy, contributing over $3 billion to the region’s GDP and supporting over 28,000 jobs. It is a career field with numerous advancement tracks and opportunities for professional growth. This 109-hour Hospitality Training Program, developed in collaboration with local economic developers and leading industry employers, is designed to train people for a fast start in the industry and to set them up for more rapid advancement in their careers. The program’s core content includes: Hospitality Foundations and Customer Service; Workplace Readiness and Soft Skills; Technical Skills (specific to the Lodging Industry); and Career Development and Pathways. Specific instructional modules include Front Desk Representative; Maintenance, Employee Guest Room Attendant; Job Readiness and Employability Skills, Guest Service Professional, and Hospitality Manager. The program results in several AHLEI (American Hospitality and Lodging Institute) certifications culminating in the Certified Hospitality Manager credential.
