The Basic Rider course introduces the fundamentals of safe, responsible motorcycling including the knowledge and skills that lead to licensing and motorcycle operation on streets and highways. A combination of online and classroom learning as well as range practice, covers the basics of motorcycle operation, effective braking, turning skills, obstacle avoidance, and safe riding strategies. Upon successful course completion, participants receive a temporary Virginia motorcycle license and a waiver to all Virginia DMV, Motorcycle License testing requirements. Successful completers may also qualify for up to a 10% insurance discount with many major motorcycle insurance companies. For range practice activities, DOT approved helmets and 125cc to 500cc motorcycle are provided. Participants may bring their own helmet if preferred.
